Peacekeeping is one of the myriad functions and accomplishments of United Nations. It is the most publicized activities of UN since the 20th century. Peacekeeping is a mythology of the UN system because it was not categorically mentioned in UN charter.
Instead, it was borne out of two chapters- chapter VI and VII. Chapter VI of UN charter allows for the use of peaceful techniques in resolving international disputes and maintaining international peace and security. Chapter VII on the other hand permits the use of coercion in enforcing the decisions of Security Council.
