29th Africa Union Summit

The 29th Africa Union Summit opened on June 30 to last until July4th 2017. Moussa Faki, newly elected Chairperson of the AU presided the Executive Council Ordinary Session.
Moussa Faki  in his address speech emphasized the need for African States to:
Speak with one voice
Link decisions reached with the will to implement them
And, ultimately progress in institutional reform

Moussa Faki highlighted new approaches of promoting peace citing-dialogue, reconciliation and search for consensual solutions as the path to peace.

The AU chairperson pledged to continue visiting areas faced with scourges of wars and terrorism. He says peacekeeping will continue to go on in Somalia, South Sudan, and Lake Chad Basin.

The implementation of AU financing and Continental free trade came to light at the executive council meeting. However, in days ahead AU budget, review of reports and draft decisions will be looked into.

We hope that- unlike several similar summits, this will be effective enough to pressure member states to start work and not just talk because African youth are hungry for action and want results.
