UN Peacekeeping Operation in Cote d’ Ivoire

The United Nations Peacekeeping Operation in Cote d’ Ivoire closed on 30 June 2017 after 13 years of deployment. Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d’Ivoire (ONUCI) ended gloriously and successfully.

Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d’Ivoire (ONUCI)I played a pivotal role in stabilizing the country especially on the aftermath of the 2010 presidential crisis that saw 3,000 Ivoirians killed and 300,000 displaced to neighbouring countries.

Sec. General Antonio Guterres congratulates the people and Government of Côte d’Ivoire for their determination and efforts in turning the page of crisis and conflict. He commends the significant contributions of all partners national, regional and international in the Ivoirian peace process.

He also pays tribute to all uniformed and civilian personnel who served with ONUCI, and expresses his profound respect for the memory of the 150 peacekeepers who lost their life in the service of peace during the 13 years of deployment of the Mission.

He also expresses his gratitude to all troop and police contributing countries for their contribution to in Côte d’Ivoire and elsewhere.
